Commodore (Abbreviated to Cmdr) is the most junior flag officer rank. Commodores may command task groups and small fleet forces, or subsections of a division (such as the Romulan Operations Division of Starfleet Intelligence). Because many commodores remain in direct, full time command of starships, it has been said that, "Commodores are admirals who don't want to give up their toys."
