Obsidian Fleet Academy
The Obsidian Fleet Academy is designed to support the operations of Obsidian Fleet by providing high quality training opportunities for both new and experienced players. It is open to all players within Obsidian Fleet. Through its command certification program, the Academy ensures that all new commanding officers have the requisite knowledge and skills to take the center chair. The Academy also supports new players with basic roleplaying classes and provides experienced players with opportunities for advanced study through specialty and departmental courses. The main focus of the Academy is always on the students that it serves. The Academy strives to provide students the knowledge and skills they need to successfully fulfill their roles in Obsidian Fleet while maintaining an open and friendly environment adhering to all Obsidian Fleet policies. Our goal is to reach out to the students and provide them with the knowledge they need. Established in 2161, this four-year institution serves as a training facility for Starfleet personnel, with the main campus located in San Francisco, Earth. Due to the size of the Federation and problems with distance, however, Starfleet has established campuses throughout Federation space.
Only a few years ago Starfleet Academy celebrated its 200th anniversary. Since its founding, the Academy has graduated millions of Starfleet officers from more than one hundred different species, all learning to work together for a common goal. Many Academy graduates have become key figures in Federation history, discovering new worlds and civilizations, winning wars in defense of the Federation, expanding the frontiers of our knowledge, and embodying Starfleet's values of honor, truth, and duty.
Starfleet Academy remains one of the Federation's most prized institutions. The Academy teaches future generations of Starfleet officers the skills that enable them to follow in their predecessors' footsteps, upholding the ideals of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets. The Commandant and the Faculty carry the responsibility of ensuring the cadets under their supervision become the finest officers they can. There are three key areas of study within the Obsidian Fleet Academy:
College of Command & Leadership Studies
The Command Academy is designed to provide candidates for command with the basic skills and knowledge necessary to become successful game masters. The Command Academy introduces them to the nuances of command, managing the Sim Management System (e.g., Nova and/or IFS), approving and rejecting characters, and creating and implementing missions. There are three courses available: Commanding Officer Course, Commanding Officer Refresher Course, and Executive Officer Specialist Course.
Cadet Academy
The Cadet Academy provides training in the basic skills necessary for those interested in writing with a simulation in Obsidian Fleet. In order to participate in the Cadet Academy, a new player must be referred by their Commanding Officer.
College of Specialty & Advanced Studies
The specialist & advanced studies courses offered within this college include advanced study in each of the areas of service within the fleet. These courses are designed to allow existing players opportunities to advance in their chosen fields of practice. These include Counseling Specialist Course, Medical Specialist Course, Intelligence Specialist Course, Engineering Specialist Course and Marine Specialist Course
Personnel & Organization
The Obsidian Fleet Academy is run by a Commandant, who is appointed by the Joint Fleet Command. The Commandant is responsible for all aspects of the Academy, appointing and assigning instructors, maintaining the website and liaising with the Fleet Council. The commandant then appoints a Vice Commandant as well as Senior Instructors within the three colleges. It is the Senior Instructors who oversee the implementation and operations of their college and are the first point of call for instructors within that college.
