[edit] Current Mission
With recent events from the end of the Dominion War to the political shakeup within the Romulan Empire, Star Fleet has rerouted the bulk of its fleet to shore up defenses along the Klingon and Romulan boarders. This started to cause tensions to rise along the other boarders of the Federation. With decreased activity in the heart of Federation space, pirates started to find solid ground to stand upon. Several pockets started to form.
One particular group was developing a terrible reputation for brutality, unpredictability, and cruel efficiency. This group, known as the Dark Sons, operated in the region between the Ferengi and the UFoP. Their home port is unknown. Their current size and force is unknown. However, even Ferengi Privateers are afraid to stand up to these pirates.
Meantime, the USS ENDEAVOR has spent the past 4 weeks on quiet patrol along the Cardassian Neutral Zone. The ship had just under gone a several month refit. She also took on a new command staff, including Commanding Officer James Conway. She was also equipped with a Hangar pod that greatly increased the number of support craft she could carry.
[edit] USS Endeavor History
There is much history attached to ships (whether sea-barren or free to the stars) given the name Endeavor, sometimes written Endeavour.
[edit] Outside of Starfleet
Nine ships were commissioned with the name HMS Endeavour. These ships were all commissioned by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, of Earth.
1) The first ship to have the name Endeavour dates back to the mid-1700's. This 36-gun ship was purchased in 1652 and sold in 1656.
2) In 1694, a 4-gun bomb vessel was bought. However, she was sold in 1696
3) Again, another ship was purchased in 1694 and sold in 1696. This time, she was a fire ship.
4) The fourth Endeavour was a hoy (boat) that was also purchased in 1694. She was sold in 1704.
5) The next one was a cutter bought in 1763 and sold in 1771.
6) Following suite, in 1763, a 14-gun sloop was purchased. She wrecked in a hurricane off Jamaica in 1780.
7) The most famous endeavour was the HM Bark Endeavour, originally Earl of Pembroke. She was a 6-gun bark bought in 1768. The ship became known as the Endeavour Bark to distinguish her from her above listed contemporary. Lieutenant James Cook commanded the Endeavour Bark in his voyage of exploration in the Pacific (1768-1771). She was sold in 1775.
8) The eighth was a schooner that was purchased in 1775 and sold in 1782.
9) Finally, the ninth Endeavour was a survey ship launched in 1912, used as a depot ship from 1940 to 1946 when she was sold.
In the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, the United States of America gave the Endeavour name to a grand space shuttle. The Space Shuttle Endeavourhas flown 20 flights, spent 250.96 days in space, and completed 3,964 orbits, and flown 166,149,636 km in total, a feat of engineering, science, and ingenuity previously unseen in the early twenty-first century.
[edit] Starfleet
The name remained largely unused until Starfleet revamped its use in the mid 23rd century.
The first starship USS Endeavor, NCC-1001 was the second Constitution-class starship to carry the name. During the mid-2250s, the Endeavour was en-route to Starbase 14, when she mysteriously disappeared in the Theta Eridani system. The starship was eventually discovered by the USS Enterprise in 2273, where they learned that the Endeavor's crew had been killed when the combined consciousness of a lost transporter research team took control of the starship's systems.
The second starship USS Endeavor, NCC-1716 was an improved version of the Constitution-class, before the class' major refit. Unofficially known at the 1700 series, this was the same class of starship James T. Kirk commanded when he commanded the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701. She was lost in the mid 2280s, although the story remains classified to this day.
The third starship USS Endeavor, NCC-1895, was refit Constitution-class starship in the late 23rd century. The Endeavour was on a deep space exploration mission near Klingon territory in 2293. It was among the starships that would have been assembled for the abandoned assault code-named Operation Retrieve, which would have rescued Captain James Kirk and Doctor Leonard McCoy from Qo'noS in 2293.
The fourth starship USS Endeavor, NCC-53944, was an Excelsior-class starship that was one of the 39 ships destroyed in the Battle of Wolf 359 against the Borg.
It has always been tradition to retire registry numbers of ships named Endeavor once the ship is lost, destroyed or decommissioned.
