[edit] USS Eagle Throughout History

Across the ages, several ships have had the distinction of being named "Eagle". The first, a schooner, protected Earth's North American continent from French pirates. Between 1798 to 1801, 22 French vessels had been captured by or with the help of the Eagle. Yet another iteration of the Eagle, this one a brig, was finished just in time to participate in the Battle of Lake Champlain. As the point of the American fleet, she took 39 shots and lost 13 members of her crew - fighting the Chubb, Linnet, and Confiance with the Saratoga. A century later, another Eagle was commended by the Secretary of the Navy for all of her varied missions.
