[edit] Namesake

Andoria is an ice world, with a human-breathable oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere. Andorian cities are underground and take their energy from geothermal activity. The cities are connected to each other by thousands of kilometers of tunnels.

Only during rare heatwaves will the temperature on Andoria rise above freezing, and even then only for a few weeks at a time. During mid-summer, a temperature reading of -28° is not uncommon.

Andoria is located close to Vulcan and relatively close to the Sol system, Andoria is also home to two different sentient species, and Andorians and their related cousins the Aenar.

[edit] History of the Name

[edit] NX-17 Andoria

Was an NX class vessel built shortly after the beginning of the Federation, in the Nesrun Shipyards, which were previously the main Fleet yards in the Andorian Empire. The first USS Andoria served in the new Starfleet with distinction for nearly six years, whereupon the vessel was lost, presumed destroyed while investigating a Temporal Annomaly near the Romulan border. It is unknown whether the destruction was caused by the Romulans or the effects of the Temporal Annomaly in the middle of 2157, shortly before hostilities began in the Earth-Romulan War. Indeed many historians believe that the Andoria's loss was one of the major triggers which finally ignited hostilies between the Coalition of Planets, lead by Earth and including such notable soon to be Federation members such as the Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites and Denobulans against the Romulan Star Empire. This was would result in the signing of the Romulan Neutral Zone Treaty and turning the "Hot" War back into a Cold War with the Romulan Star Empire and eventually, this treaty would lead to the foundation of Obsidian Fleet and her role within Starfleet.

[edit] NCC-375 USS Andoria

This was a Mosvka class Starship, the second of it's class and a return to a style of starship design more reminiscent of the NX class starship after it was discovered that the NX class actually provided an improved stability to the Warp field. The second starship Andoria and the first named USS Andoria. The USS Andoria served with distinction for a number of years, outliving it's original class life expectancy, after having been launched in mid 2180 she continued with Starfleet for a total of sixty seven years and had over 5000 different Starfleet personnel serve aboard her and she was commanded by fourteen different CO's during her period. She was most commonly deployed to guard the then newly formed Romulan Neutral Zone and ensure that neither side breached it, but was occasionally redeployed to assist on the Klingon frontier on a fairly regular basis. After being removed from active service in 2247, the USS Andoria continued to serve Starfleet for another twenty three years as a training vessel. When finally placed into mothballs in 2270, the USS Andoria was then moved in 2271 to the Imperial Guard Hall of Honor, where she remains to this day, alongside the AIG Kumari as a symbol of the blending of old and new and the continuation of tradition. In all the USS Andoria served for ninety years, nearly thirty more than her original design specification had expected from this venerable warhorse of a ship.

[edit] NCC-7145 USS Andoria

Fifteen years after the final mothballing of the second Andoria, the third Andoria came into service with Starfleet. She was the ninth starship in the initial production run of the Constellation Class and she entered service into Starfleet in mid 2285. The USS Andoria served with a less than spectacular past, far less so than her predecessors, in her early days she was assigned to the Earth Defense Fleet, where she would remain for twenty years until 2305 at which point she was replaced by a newer class and reassigned to the Talarian border. Forty five years later the USS Andoria was caught by a Talarian Battlegroup after having had a Warp Core malfunction, which had left them without shields, weapons and with minimal life support. The Talarians promptly boarded the vessel and massacred every single one of the 535 crew aboard her. The incident nearly sparked a full scale war with the Talarian Empire, until they appologised for the incident. The Talarians kept the ship however, despite Federation requests to return it. An incident three weeks later on the Galen IV colony would spark the Galen Border Conflicts.

[edit] NCC-67919 USS Andoria

The current USS Andoria was commissioned in 2369 as part of the Third production run of the Steamrunner class. She entered official service in 2370 after minor problems with her warp core, which meant that the Warp Core had to be replaced. During the Dominion War the USS Andoria was assigned to the Seventh Fleet and barely survived the Battle of Tyra, early on in the war. She limped back to Federation lines almost a week after the Battle, having had to hide her location for nearly every step of the leg. She returned to active service just in time for the First Battle of Chintoka, which she survived. She was then reassigned to the defence of Andoria as the head of a Federation Task Group assigned to the edge of the system. Here she remained until near the end of the war, at which point she was called up to participate in the Battle of Cardassia. In 2377 the USS Andoria was assigned to Obsidian Fleet and then equipped with a Cloaking Device as a part of her regular refit.

She served in Obsidian Fleet for six years with distinction participating in a wide range of different missions until she was heavily damaged by Orion Pirates in 2383 and forced to refit at Deep Space Four. It was then that Commander Ivan Pakarilov was assigned to her command on January 14th 2384.

The USS Andoria was then retired from active service after being again heavily damaged during a Battle with Ryuu forces, near the colony of Akilor IV, the battle resulted in heavy casualties amongst the crew, although only four deaths. The Andoria was however so heavily damaged that Starfleet deemed it too resource intensive to repair her again, after the same having been done only two years earlier. The ship's dedication plaque was presented to the Andorian Chancellor and now hangs in his office, in addition a bulkhead from her Bridge now forms a small memorial in Federation Square, Laikan, engraved with the names of every crewmember who died serving aboard her during her service and another four arrayed around it, recording the name of every crewmember who served aboard her.

[edit] NCC-80244 USS Andoria

After the sudden retirement of the Andoria, Starfleet rushed to replace her, at the Andorian Chancellor's behest and as a result, the third vessel of the Vikrant class' production run, then under production in the Nesrun Fleetyards was redesignated. The vessel formerly known as the USS Engandine, was now to be known as the USS Andoria.

She was at that time just four months from completion and as a result, most of the Andoria's old crew were assigned to the Nesrun Fleetyards, temporarily to enable them to transfer to the new vessel when she was completed. Subsequently, on the 13th of April, 2386 the USS Andoria, NCC-80244 was commissioned and then entrusted into the command of Commodore Ivan Pakarilov, whp after six months of command transferred off of the vessel for a Desk job at Starfleet Command, entrusting his command to Lieutenant Commander Daniel Steele.
