I've got a list of the Starfleet General Orders but I can't seem to find a good place to put it. Any suggestions?

Perhaps under Starfleet Structure?

Unfortunately, some of the main pages cannot be editted by people like us due to their importance (and risk of vandalism). If there is a Starfleet article, it could be linked there. (EDIT: Added the link to Starfleet, feel free to work on it) - Frank Ross 22:40, 28 November 2005 (EST)

The Manual of Style link under resources in the main page is broken.

[edit] Memory Alpha Use

How much should we duplicate stuff that's already at Memory Alpha? Should we, for instance, include a discussion of planetary classification?

--Wildrose 12:38 4 December 2005 (EST)

  • Memory Alpha does, indeed, have a great resource of information. However, we should eventually turn articles that copy their information into our own style and wording, along with information from the various PBeMs in Obsidian Fleet.

[edit] Test Version Notice

Should we remove the "test version" notice on the front page now? It does, at least to me, limit the time I'm willing to spend working on the wiki.

I'll pose the question to my directors and the 'people above', but we'll most likely change it. Please don't change it until we give the yes, tho. thanks. Cars 18:24, 4 March 2007 (MST)

I wouldn't think of it ;)

[edit] Sidebar

JFC,

Just curious as to why the sidebar has been increased so much when the sections entitled "Fleet Departments" and "Task Forces" is already in an easy accessable location on the main page. No offence; but I find adding them to the sidebar a little redundant --Captain Harrison 05:41, 20 September 2009 (MDT)

I agree with Leam on this. It is redundant and, more annoying in my book, it pushes the search box down. While this might seem like minor thing having to slide the page down to reach the search box and tool box (going past two versions of the task force and fleet department links while doing so) gets to be frustrating. --ghostpool 10:32, 21 September 2009 (MDT)

Maybe the new Fleet Corps Director (when selected) can talk to the JFC about this issue --Captain Harrison 14:26, 21 September 2009 (MDT)

I added the new sidebar sections, the reason being that they provide for easier access to the sections in question when a player is not on the main page, and that it makes the navigation bar more comprehensive and useful. That said, I can just as easily remove them, but it's my view that they add some degree of usefulness. I agree on the search box, though - it would be preferable if that was higher up, which is probably possible in some way. MiaNarusegawa 22:07, 21 September 2009 (GMT)

Admiral... I do agree that the sidebar does add easy access; but the access to those fleet department pages and TF pages is already easily access on the main area as they are at the top of the page in the big coloured box in "Content". If the JFC are going to keep the sidebar how it is; then I feel that the content area on the main page should remove the Task Force and Fleet Department area (the blue box), and that the search by brought up to the top of the sidebar (which probably could be done with some coding). --Captain Harrison 15:34, 21 September 2009 (MDT)

I've reverted the sidebar to the way it was for now (and until a way can be found to move the search box up; I know basically how to do it, but haven't got the time to implement right now). I'll recommend that the new Corps Director look at making modifications to the sidebar to increase its usefulness, though. --MiaNarusegawa 15:40, 21 September 2009 (MDT)

I see what you're saying, Admiral. It's only really redundant on the Main Page. In my opinion it's only a time saver if you don't have to manipulate the page less than a click back to the Main Page. Is it possible to simply have a Top 10 box to the most viewed pages or "portals" such as the Science or R&D pages. --ghostpool 19:42, 22 September 2009 (MDT)

Ghostpool; what I have done with my ship's wiki is portals, and I have just added the sidebar with those portals; so that on any page, users can go to another portal without having to go to the main page. I think what Admiral Day was trying to do was similar to that, but it made it too big. What I think could be done (as would be a great task for the new Fleet Corps Director) is work with the JFC to make a better sidebar that will not only make easy access to the main pages at all times; but make it so that the sidebar doesnt strech down the page and cause the search bar to drop --Captain Harrison 19:58, 22 September 2009 (MDT)

I don't know if a Top 10 box is possible, but MediaWiki is a highly adaptive piece of software and can be modified in many ways, so I dare say that it is. What Leam describes is what I was trying to do - I did notice the problem with the search box at the time I made the changes, but for time reasons I didn't move the search box then, and forgot to come back to it. What I'll do is that when the next FC Director is in office, I'll talk to them about it and they can decide what they reckon is best. Thanks for your contributions, though, guys :) --MiaNarusegawa 06:22, 23 September 2009 (MDT)
