[edit] Biography
Ivan Pakarilov was born in 2345 in Vladivostok, Siberia. Ivan lead a sheltered early life, from and early age he went hunting with his grandfather and father in the wilds of Sibera. His mother Tanya, died after complications in his brother Yuri's childbirth, which came suddenly, whilst the family were in the middle of Siberia, hunting. His father, Vladimir, a retired Colonel in the Marine Corps was believed to have died when he was eight, mainly of a broken heart, figuratively and literally. Leaving him to be raised by his Grandparents. His Grandfather, Boris, who was then a Commander with Starfleet Research and Development and his grand mother, Katerina a civillian Warp Theoretician also working with Starfleet R&D.
Aged Eighteen Ivan completed his early schooling, graduating well towards the top of Vladivostok High's Class of 2363. Ivan then applied to enter the Starfleet Academy, scraping through his entrance exam by two marks. Ivan almost had to drop out and reapply in his first year after failing Warp Mechanics, particularly ironic because his grandmother is considered to be the foremost expert in the field, however second time around he passed, largely thanks to a lot of private tutoring from his grandmother. From his Third year Ivan began to concentrate on Tactical and Security. In his fourth year in the academy Ivan was investigated for a possible link to the Maquis after a group of Maquis stole classified intelligence on the Cardassians from a terminal in his room, however Ivan was found to have no involvement in the affair, although a Girl he was dating at the time, Rachel Brannigan was found to have orchestrated the theft and recieved ten years in a Penal Colony for her actions. This has in a large part contributed to Ivan's paranoid nature, that and working for Starfleet Intelligence.
Graduating from Starfleet Academy in 2368, Ivan was 102nd in his class. His first posting was as Tactical Officer, aboard the USS Volgograd, a Miranda class Starship, under the command of Commodore Nakamuro. Here he met two major influences on the remainder of his life, his then Commanding Officer, Loshid Nakamuro who would later go on to Command Starfleet Intelligence from 2382 onwards and also would later run Ivan's intelligence gathering unit and also then Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Trevelyan, then the Volgagrad's Marine CO. After an uneventful two years aboard the Volgagrad, Ensign Pakarilov was promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade and re-assigned to the USS Falcon in early 2370, as her Assistant Cheif Tactical / Security Officer. Ivan was requested to attend the Starfleet Intelligence special training programme in 2372 after two years aboard the Sovereign, mostly just for a change of scenery. He completed the class and was assigned to Starfleet Intelligence in 2372 shortly before the outbreak of the Dominion War. Ivan changed from defending a Starship from hostile aliens to defending a desk from mountains of hostile data padds and that office politics that everyone loves. However he found being a desk jockey to be inordinately boring compared to his previous job.
Assigned to Bajor in the aftermath of the outbreak Ivan and his team ran covert operations gathering intelligence and technology from inside Dominion territory. His team was highly successful for the first two years, rescuing Federation spies, gathering intelligence, running sabotage operations, stealing technology and attempting to ferment rebellions on occupied worlds, whereupon after two years service Ivan was captured and spent 3 months in a prison camp, on the Cardassian world of Rakal being tortured and abused by Dominion interrogators for days on end. He was finally rescued with the help of a Female Cardassian Glinn assigned to the camp, who was actually an informant for Ivan already, Kiru Charot, daughter of the Camp's commander. He barely escaped with his life and happened to have timed it just right and was collected by the IKS Chameleon, just in time.
Upon the Chameleon, surrounded by his team mates Ivan discovered how bad his injuries were. He had already know for two days that he couldn't feel his arm, but the light and sensory deprivation inflicted by his interrogators had stopped him from realising that he couldn't feel it because it wasn't there. Gul Charot, his saviors father had chopped it off in a fit of rage during their last interrogation session. He weighed barely 35 kg when rescued, and his entire body was covered with bruises, burns, lacerations and bleeding sores. And as a result of the poor diet and low quality food the Cardassians had fed him it was thought he may even have to have his stomach replaced with an artificial one.
After being rushed to a hosptial ship, the USS Olympic, Ivan began his medical treatment. He spent three months aboard the Olympic before a medical transport was available to take him back all the way over to Earth. By this time he had recovered his strength and weight, durmal regenerators had done their work and all that was missing was his arm.
After being transferred to Earth for hospital treatment Ivan was then forced to endure to Breen raid on Earth whilst still missing an arm, however since he still had one, he was utilised to keep invalid patients mobile and get them into bunkers underneath the hospital, not used since the Third World War, over three hundred years prior to the Breen raid. In 2375 he was finally deemed to be fit for duty and having learnt how to use his new cybernetic arm, was assigned to the USS Andoria as her Chief Intelligence Officer. Upon the completion of the tour in 2379 he was then recommended for his bridge exam, by his commanding officer, Commodore Nakamuro, hoping that he would return with SFI's Active Intelligence Gathering Division, he didn't take him up on the recommendation and attempted to get another shipboard posting. In 2380 Ivan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and was at the request of the Andoria's new CO, Captain Walker to the Andoria again as her Chief Intelligence Officer in 2381, where he served for one year. Lieutenant Commander Pakarilov then began his bridge training in early 2382. By the middle of 2382 he had completed his exam and was then promoted to Commander before being returned to the USS Andoria as her Chief Intelligence Officer and Executive Officer. After two years of service aboard the USS Andoria she came under attack from seven Syndicate pirate ships whilst attempting to interdict a shipment of illegal weapons, heading for the nearby world of Throa V, where a Civil War was in progress. During the course of the six hour battle, Ivan was forced to take command of the Andoria and due to his brave actions by the time reinforcements arrived the Andoria had destroyed four Syndicate raiders, Crippled another and the remaining two were both heavily damaged. The Andoria however was in a worse state. On the bridge only Lieutenant Commander Travis McCloud at Tactical and Ensign Withers at the Helm remained alive, the remainder had been killed by either an exploding plasma conduit a Nausicaan Boarding Party who had managed to sneak aboard during a momentary lapse in shield cover. Apart from her crew troubles, the Andoria had expended every torpedo in her magazine and was left with just two phasers operative. Her shields were fluctuating at 0 --> 1% of operational capacity and her Ablative Armour held in only the smallest minority of places. Her Engines were also offline and she had over thirty seperate hull breaches. All in all, only nine of her crew survived the Battle.
The ship was towed back to Deep Space Four, where Ivan and the other survivors spent their time convalescing. During this time, it was decided to use the drydock at DS4 to repair the Andoria and to assign her to the command of Commander Pakarilov. In mid 2384 after the end of the Andoria's second (although only her first official mission) he was promoted to Captain.
