OF Database:Rules
From Obsidian Fleet Database
Any time that people work together, it is important to make rules that they should agree to follow. Most of the rules written here must be followed by everyone, and some of the rules are still being decided.
Most of the time, if a specific rule does not yet exist here, or if a situation is not covered by the policies and guidelines that exist here, and use common sense and courtesy.

[edit] Wiki Etiquette
Consider very carefully before editing other people's or ship's articles. For the most part, you may not edit a page that you did not create or are not strictly in charge of (such as the T*CO, CO, XO for a SIM) maintaining. If you are not on the crew, the CO has not asked you to change something, or add it, you may think you are doing them a favor but there are many instances where it is considered unacceptable. Err on the side of caution and leave a page alone. If it is really a glaring issue, find out who is up keeping the article. Check the history of the page, find the user that started the page, or are currently in charge of the article (such as the CO) and use the "email user" option on your toolbox (make sure to enable e-mail from other users in "my preferences"). Ask first, before making any changes. This rule does NOT apply to the Fleet Corps Director (and/or R&D Director in articles involving technology) but s/he will use caution and observe policies when necessary to continue the job of maintenance of the Wiki.

Please note that all contributions to Obsidian Fleet Database are considered to be released under the Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 (see Project:Copyrights for details). If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here. You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource. DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION! Think it's Fair Use? Check the Fair Use Article on Wikipedia or just don't submit it.
[edit] Neutrality Requirements
"Neutral point of view is a fundamental Wikimedia principle and a cornerstone of Wikipedia. All Wikipedia articles and other encyclopedic content must be written from a neutral point of view, representing fairly, and as far as possible without bias, all significant views that have been published by reliable sources. This is non-negotiable and expected of all articles, and of all article editors. For guidance on how to make an article conform to the neutral point of view, see the NPOV tutorial; for examples and explanations that illustrate key aspects of this policy, see Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/FAQ." Wikipedia
For the purpose of the Obsidian Fleet Wiki that means no advertising or statement of non supportable entries in an article. That which can be construed as non-neutral content are blatant advertising, statements such as "the only" or "the best" are unacceptable and the entire article will be reduced to {{stub}} by the Fleet Corps team (and ONLY the Fleet Corps may do this).
Check the Obsidian_Fleet_Database:Help page for more guidelines
[edit] Policy Regarding SIM Pages
Each SIM shall have one article to keep up-to-date information on. When a SIM closes, the SIM article is stripped to {{stub}} by the administrators of the Obsidian Fleet Wiki. The Obsidian Fleet Wiki is not a repository for SIM historical information any other place than a SIM's current page. ALL historical data that a SIM wishes to keep needs to be kept on private servers.
Regarding switching ships, when a SIM is still active but switches ships, they are no longer able to keep the historical data of the old ship on that SIM's article. They are free to transfer the data to their new SIM article for their own upkeep.
[edit] Policy Regarding Squads
In relation to the policy on SIM pages. The exception to that rule are Marine and Fighter Squadrons of a SIM. This is because they are often repeatable or related to other SIMS. Remember to observe the proper naming convention already set forth. In order to place a Squad on the Wiki, contact the appropriate Fleet Corps Advisor. If none is present, contact the Fleet Corps Director for direction. DO NOT PLACE the squadron without first checking with either of these two individuals.
[edit] Policy Regarding Biographies
Each person may put a limited biography of their playing characters on the Obsidian Fleet Wiki. No portrait images should be placed on the biography. Detail of your character information does not need to be long but you may put an external link to your current biography on your bio to lead to a more detailed version of it.
[edit] Policy Regarding NPCs
NPCs should not be put on the Obsidian Fleet Wiki. There is no need to detail non-playing characters or ships of any nature. Any and all NPC characters will be removed from the Wiki.
